JOEL Giftson, the young man from Vellore who exposed the inappropriate behavior of some Scripture Union (SU) staff with school girls through a series of tweets on Twitter on Sunday (Oct 4), has written to the head of the organization giving a clean chit of sorts to Mr. Albert, another SU staffer whose name also came up in a flurry of tweets initially.

First of all, it was raised with Scripture Union only. Some of them posted these screenshots on the organization's Facebook page. Some others who were in touch with a person at SU called Jem akka sent the screenshots to her. But the women were asked to keep their mouths shut about the issue by Jem akka, Joel Giftson told The Christian Messenger.

The Christian Messenger spoke to N. Joshua Kirubaraj, national director of Scripture Union. Kirubaraj who joined SU as a volunteer 30 years ago and rose up the ranks is clearly distressed at the turn of events. He did not hide his anguish during the interview but also expressed his determination to dredge the organization of bad elements and march ahead confidently.

The allegations related to Samuel Jaisundar, who works with the Scripture Union (SU) as secretary of its English department and is based out of Coimbatore, engaging in inappropriate text chats with minor girls and soliciting explicit photos of underage girls whom he had met at VBS, retreats or youth camps at schools, children's homes and other places.

SCRIPTURE UNION, whose avowed aim is 'to encourage people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer' to help them 'grow in Christian maturity', has been caught on the wrong foot after Twitter exploded with revelations on Sunday evening that at least two of its staffers solicited explicit photos from minor girls to whom they were sent to preach about Christian virtues.

If pedophilia is not a taboo any more, all these 'molesters' out there (yes, even the non-offending pedophile!) would turn into 'monsters' and pounce on the first child they find in their path.
