THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against seven men accused of looting arms and ammunition from the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Manipur last August amid the ethnic violence in the state.

The chargesheet was filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro), in Guwahati.

The incident took place on August 3, 2023, when several armed miscreants allegedly looted 300 arms, 19,800 ammunition, and 800 types of munitions, as well as accessories from two rooms of the IRB Headquarters in Naranseina, Bishnupur district.

The CBI had registered a case against the incident on August 24, 2023, and took over the probe based on an FIR filed at the Moirang police station in Bishnupur.

The probe agency investigation is underway with efforts to identify and prosecute all the individuals involved in the case.

Manipur witnessed sporadic violence after ethnic clashes broke out between the Valley-majority Meiteis and hill-majority Kukis on May 3, 2023.
