AS you intercede for the people you know and bring the issues that trouble you before the Throne of Grace this week, please remember to include these prayer points also in your intercession.

1. Drug users in India. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)’s World Drug Report 2022 estimates that around 284 million people use drugs worldwide. The report also claims India is one of the world’s single-largest opiate markets. In India, youth is among the most impacted by the menace. More than 60% of all illicit drugs seized in India are from Punjab. According to a study, most addicts are between the age group of 15 and 35 and many are unemployed.

The number of drug users increased 26 per cent globally over the last decade to 284 million people (15-64 years). An estimated 11.2 million injected drugs. Half of whom lived with hepatitis C, 1.4 million with HIV and 1.2 million with both.

Covid-19 was no dampener to drug production. Cocaine, methamphetamine and opium have all recorded an upward trend. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, global manufacturing of cocaine grew 11 per cent in 2020 to 1,982 tonnes while seizures reached a record 1,424 tonnes.

2. Keep praying for MAF pilot Ryan Koher

There’s been an update in the Ryan Koher detention last week. Christian Community Credit Union (CCCU) has donated $10,000 to aid in the release of MAF pilot Ryan Koher who has been in a Mozambican high-security prison since November 4, 2022. Koher was on a mission to fly supplies from southern Mozambique to an orphanage in the northern part of the country where there has been insurgent activity.

“The donation from Christian Community Credit Union is helping to cover legal and other costs for Ryan,” said David Holsten, MAF President and CEO. “CCCU is more than just MAF’s financial institution. For decades they have been generous ministry partners who have consistently invested in MAF and the isolated people we serve. We appreciate their prayers and assistance for our pilot, Ryan Koher, in his wrongful detainment in Mozambique.”

3. Pray for Nagaland

We recently saw how the new government in Nagaland was sworn in. There were praise and worship and prayers made on the occasion. PM Modi and Home minister Amit Shah sat through the session replete with shouts of Hallelujahs! and Glory to God. But this does not mean everything is fair in Nagaland. For the second time, this state is moving towards an Opposition-less Assembly. All the political parties in Nagaland have thrown their weight behind the NDPP-BJP government. NDPP has 25 seats while the BJP has 12 seats. The main opposition, the Nationalist Congress Party of Sharad Pawar, with seven seats has decided to join the NDPP-BJP government. How transparent and efficient will a government without an opposition be is a moot point. | 16 Hours in Heaven: Bill Hembree’s book on Amazon |
