Daily Devotion: The language of the skies

God speaks in the certainty and regularity of the seasons; in the precision of the movements of the sun, the moon, and the stars; in the regular coming of night and day.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them” Psalm 19:1-3.

THERE is a language in nature that speaks of the existence of God. It is the language of order, beauty, perfection, and intelligence. God has revealed Himself to us through His creation. The beauty and complexity of the natural world around us testify to His power and wisdom. As we look up at the stars, or watch a sunset, we can’t help but be in awe of God’s creativity.

God speaks in the certainty and regularity of the seasons; in the precision of the movements of the sun, the moon, and the stars; in the regular coming of night and day.

But even though creation speaks of God’s glory, it is limited in what it can reveal. It cannot tell us about God’s love, or His plan for our salvation. For that, we need His Word.

PRAYER

Lord, help me understand that You have not ceased speaking to us. You use every available opportunity to speak to us – to reveal Your will to us, to instruct us the way we nee to walk and to warn us of the dangers of straying away from You. Lord, help me hear You, heed Your words and stay close to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
