CAN a nation be saved in a day? Thousands of American missionaries joined with Latin American believers to prove this prophecy of the prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament. (Isaiah 66:8)
They targeted Honduras, one of the most violent nations in Central America. Their rallying cry: One nation, one day.
It started with a record-breaking team of 2,000 short-term missionaries that spread out around the country for a week-long gospel invasion unlike any seen before.
For many local pastors, it was an answer to prayer.
“This country is suffering a lot,” admitted pastor Rigoberto Galvez in a television interview.
“What if we do something powerful in the nation that attracts the attention of evangelists that can reach all of those people?” he asked.
That “powerful something” became “One Nation, One Day,” a strategy to saturate Honduras with the gospel. During the week of preparation, young people shared their faith in local schools and medical professionals held free clinics.
At least one veteran Honduran missionary was impressed.
“Hey, it is possible, something like that, that a miracle will happen at this time and moment in history,” missionary Miguel Alvarez said. “Yes, can a nation be saved in a day? I can say, yes, it could!”
The government declared the following Saturday a national holiday. That day, simultaneous rallies held in 19 soccer stadiums invited the entire country to follow Jesus Christ.
Honduras’ President Porfirio Lobo supported the event.
“To the 2,000 evangelists who are in Honduras today, I want to thank you in the name of the people of Honduras,” he said. “The true solution for the problems of Honduras is first of all to understand that God is the one who decides and orders everything.”
Organizers believe the One Nation, One Day strategy could launch a new series of national campaigns in Latin America and beyond. CBN News
