YEARS ago I wrote a book called “Jolt! Get The Jump on a World That’s Constantly Changing.” I wrote it to help people cope with the accelerating change that I saw coming in the culture. One thing I discovered during my research was that for most people, “change” is one of the most difficult challenges in life. If you’re a leader, then you know what I mean. Trying to get employees, church members, supporters, partners, family members, or anyone else to change is incredibly difficult.
Except for now.
Since the beginning of the COVID lockdown, all we’ve had pounded into our heads has been phrases like “There’s a new normal,” and “Things will be different,” and “Our lives will never be the same.” On the evening news, prime time TV, and online, the constant drumming of the “new normal” has been happening on a daily basis.
Which means that not only are people more open to change, they’re actually expecting it. Think about it – for a year, “change” is the single most powerful and consistent message the world has been hearing.
If you’re a leader, I’m willing to bet there’s something about your business, your church, your nonprofit, or your life you want to change. Pastors may want to change the order of service, church staff, name of the church, outreach programs, building, or a million other possibilities. Business leaders may want to change their leadership team, marketing program, advertising, or update products. And others may want to make big personal changes.
The point is – do it. This is the time. I honestly believe that we probably have a short window before people go back to their old ways of thinking, so we need to act quickly. There’s no question that now is the moment to make big things happen in your organization.
