Righteousness originates from God, the ultimate Lawgiver, and is exemplified through His divine laws. Human efforts alone cannot justify a person; it is only through God’s grace and mercy that true righteousness is attained. This righteousness, a magnificent gift from God, is an expression of His love for humanity. It is a bestowed virtue, graciously imputed to individuals who place their faith in the Son of God.

Living a righteous life according to the Bible involves adhering to moral and spiritual principles outlined in scripture. Here are essential steps to help you on this journey:

Know God’s Word: Regularly read and study the Bible to gain a deeper understanding of God’s commandments and teachings. This knowledge will serve as your guide.

Hebrews 4:12 says: “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 4:4, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Psalm 119:105 says: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Prayer and Communion: Maintain a strong prayer life to foster a personal connection with God. Seek His guidance, give thanks, and ask for forgiveness when needed.

Prayer is the foundation of a believer upon which he builds his spiritual life.

Philippians 4:6 says: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Prayer opens doors for us. Jesus said in Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Love and Compassion: Embrace the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself. Show kindness, empathy, and compassion to others, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Christians are known for their love. The world sees Jesus through our acts of love.

Apostle John says in 1 John 3:1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

Seek Righteousness: Pursue righteousness in all your actions. This means making decisions aligned with God’s moral standards, even when faced with challenges or temptations.

David told Saul in 1 Samuel 26:23: “The LORD rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed.” David was rewarded for his act of mercy towards Saul.

We have no righteousness in ourselves. Our righteousness is like filthy rags before God. That’s why God asks us to look to Him alone for righteousness. “Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn…” (Isaiah 51:1).

By following these principles, you can embark on a path of righteousness according to the Bible. Remember, it’s a journey, and growth in faith and righteousness takes time and effort. Trust in God’s grace and seek His presence in every aspect of your life.
