Because village residents are fearful of foreigners, Wycliffe Associates trains national Christians who then travel throughout the country to teach others how to translate the Bible for their language communities.

“I have a passion for everyone, for every language and people group, to have God’s Word in its fullness,” Neu said in a press release.

Entire networks of underground churches operate in secret, but reliance on foreign-language Bibles severely hinders evangelism and discipleship efforts.

“The work produced through MAST methodology is excellent,” said Dr. John Luton, who has checked the work of numerous translation projects around the world. “It compares very favorably with text produced through other methods.”

When a Bible translation project comes to a close, the Scriptures need to be printed and distributed.

“People believe in black magic, believe that witchcraft controls their lives through curses and spells and magical poisons,” says Smith. “They’re trapped in the same animistic worldview that controlled their ancestors.”

Indonesia is the fourth most populous nation in the world, where approximately 87 percent of the population is Muslim.

In MAST workshops, translators from a language group are divided into teams, and each team is assigned a portion of Scripture to translate together.

Of the 7,097 languages currently spoken in the world, there are at least 2,758 languages that still need a Bible translation project started.
