Y Thanga Bose: A man who lived by the Word!

By Robin Sam

Dr Y Thanga Bose was a man who was known for his leadership and management lessons, time management skills and punctuality. He was also known for his unquenchable zeal for missions. His soul passion was to shed light wherever there was darkness.

To me, Thanga Bose was a man of the Word. He was the quintessential man mentioned in Psalm 1. His delight was in the law of the Lord. He meditated on His law day and night.

He was a man of words. He had a way with words. I’ve enjoyed reading his editorials in the ‘Riseup and Build’ magazine which he edited till the end. He had this uncanny knack of connecting the mundane with the magnificent. He would pick up an ordinary news item to open his editorial, dissect the issue and connect it to the Word of God to draw inferences and learnings from the issue or event.

Thanga Bose was also a man who kept his word. Towards the end of his life, we spent some time discussing new avenues to work together. He expressed his desire to work with Messenger Missions in sending missionaries among Banjara tribals in Secunderabad and working with mission agencies and reaching people in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Rajasthan and Odisha. He connected me with a few people in this regard. As if he knew his time had come, he had also confided in his wife and children his desire to work along with us.

The void left by Uncle Thanga Bose cannot be filled easily because of what he was. But I pray that the God of all comfort will help his family and the ABC Prayer Fellowship ministry tide over the time of grief and look at ways to fulfil his vision. Amen.

(The editor was invited by Mrs. Sheela Bose and family to pay tributes to Y Thanga Bose at a thanksgiving meeting held at CSI Redeemer Church in Chennai on Jan 21)
