Whisper of the trees

Terence and his wife, Tia, loved going on long walks together, especially during the autumn months.

“The air is crisp and comfortably cool, so it’s great time of the year for long walks in the great outdoors,” said Terrence.

Tia enjoyed the comfortable temperatures, but her favorite aspect of autumn was the rainbow of colors that adorned every tree in their neighborhood. “The colors are so bright they almost sparkle,” she smiled. “All the various hues come together to create a majestic symphony of color.”

Tia was so excited about the arrival of the autumn season, she dreamt about the trees and the magnificent splendor they lent to the landscape. Each tree took on a personality of its own, as branches blew freely in the breeze, offering praise and worship to the one who had crafted them into existence.

“You are worthy of all our worship and praise!” proclaimed Mighty Oak Tree.

“You and you alone!” declared all the fruit trees.

Mere words can’t adequately describe you!” shouted all the trees.

“You’re the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!” came a collective roar.

Many flowers realized their current lifespan had been completed, but they recognized the truth of their rebirth the following spring. “Thank you, Lord, for life and for the opportunity of serving you,” they whispered a prayer of praise.

Terrence and Tia noticed the subtle daily changes in nature. Before long, the cooler temperatures and the cold falling rains, glistening frosts, and robust winds, resulted in leaves gradually changing from a vibrant green to a canvas of many colors, then blown to the ground.

Terrence and Tia observed the changes in nature with hearts full of thanks. “We praise you for life and the variety of nature’s landscapes,” Tia whispered a soft prayer of gratitude.

“That’s right, father,” Terrence agreed. He prayed Lamentations 23:22-25, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.”

Terrence and Tia enjoyed the spring season almost as much as they liked autumn. “Flowers springing to life again … fruit trees bearing their blossoms … the warming temperatures, all things show the power of God,” Terrence thought.

Tia, too, was overwhelmed by the masterful workings of the Creator. “Again a rainbow for a canvas,” she thought. “The leaves are green, just like they were before they started changing colors last autumn, but the flowers are once again a multitude of colors, just the way God intended!” More stories from Greg Miller
