INTERNATIONAL Monetary Fund chairman Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who was accused of raping a Manhattan hotel maid recently, may be in a jail cell and facing serious criminal charges. However, a section of the liberal media in the US has supported him by spinning a fake rape story.

NBC correspondent Jeff Rossen has said in his report how the would-be Socialist Party candidate for the French presidency had ‘worried his political opponent, current French President Nicolas Sarkozy, would try to frame him with a fake rape…’

According to Rossen, Strauss-Kahn once told a French newspaper that the rape victim would be ‘promised 500,000 or a million euros to invent this story’ by Sarkozy.

The headline on screen during the segment read: ‘French Conspiracy Theories; Was Banker Set Up as Part of Political Plot?’

Although the NBC did not offer any evidence to this being a trap laid by Sarkozy to derail Strauss-Kahn from his presidential bid, that did not stop the channel from pursuing the conspiracy angle.
