Trailer full of church donations stolen in US

A truck and trailer carrying more than an estimated $7,000 worth of donations were stolen this weekend.

Doug and Connie Mertens left Brooklyn, Iowa, with a truck and trailer full of donations from the New Beginnings Church.

The church had collected more than 400 boxed meals, non-perishable food items, clothes and baby furniture for Lighthouse Ministry in Kentucky. Lighthouse Ministry helps about a hundred mining families who have been suffering through hard economic times.

But before the Mertens got to Kentucky, their truck and trailer were stolen overnight in Greenwood, Indiana.

“This just blows my mind,” Connie Mertens said.

Mertens, a former Hudson resident, is hoping that some good will come out of this.

“We just need to pray that it is found… or that through the news media that we are able to contact people who will respond to this mission in need.”

Although her own personal possessions were among those stolen, her biggest worry is for the people her church was trying help.

So far, there have been no reported leads on where the truck and trailer are. Gray Television
