Preaching is one of the most effective ways of drawing people by faith to Jesus Christ. (Mk. 16:15). Historically, preaching has become the principle means of leading, teaching, and feeding the flock of God. (Jn. 21:15-17).

Each Sunday there are people who heard, really heard the message. God gave you a message, you studied it out, and your delivered it faithfully. But on Monday and Tuesday, the Word is at risk.

If your message is longer than 10 minutes, you will need multiple highs and lows to release the tension and keep people’s attention.

So what, are we not suppose to use those terms at all? That’s not what I am saying. Using “insider language” is only of benefit to those who believe.

People should not leave the sermon having learned more about the preacher than Christ. When we stand to preach the word, we should prayerfully whisper to ourselves, “You are not the story.”
