Sr. Valsa JohnTHE police claimed to have entered a crucial phase in the investigations into the murder of Sister Valsa John, five days after the nun was hacked to death by a group of people.

The details of calls in the phone’s call list may throw up important clues on the background to the murder, police surmise.

The police found the mobile phone used by the nun on Friday night.

Talking to media persons, a senior police officer who did not want to be named said: “We have found the mobile set last night. We are trying to get the call details to close in on the investigation into the incident.”

According to sources, Valsa John had contacted the police when she noticed that the group of about 35 assailants were about to attack her on Tuesday night, and the aides alleged that there was no response from the police.

Meanwhile, the police also named three people in connection with the murder. The FIR has named Advin Murmu, a Pachuara resident, and two others. Police is also questioning seven villagers who were once associated with the nun.

On Nov 18, Jharkhand Mines Area Co-ordination Committee, supported by several civic and human rights organizations, organized a protest march in Ranchi. The protesters alleged that the murder had been carried out by the mining company and not by the Maoists.
