Kokrajar District mapCHRISTIANS all over the country are urged to pray for peace in Assam, where violence resulting from clashes between Bodo tribals and minority immigrants has spread to Bongaigaon district in that State.

According to news reports, fresh incidents of violence were reported in two districts Kokrajhar and Chirang of Assam.

As many as 21 people have been killed in the recent ethnic violence so far. Indefinite curfew was on in Kokrajhar district while night curfew would continue in Chirang and Dhubri districts, police has said.

Pray especially for the many thousands of people who have been rendered homeless. Most of those people have now taken shelter in government-run relief camps in Kokrajhar. People affected by the violence in Chirang district have taken shelter in schools.

Senior State ministers Nilamani Sen Deka and Prithivi Majhi have been asked by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to rush to Kokrajhar today. An all-party delegation is expected to visit the troubled areas tomorrow.

Bloodletting began after two student leaders were fired upon. The students have been identified as Mohibul Islam of All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) and Abdul Siddique Sheikh of All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) in Kokrajhar.

Four former Bodo Tiger cadres were killed last Friday in a retaliatory attack in the district. A series of attacks and counter-attacks have been triggered as a result of the firing.
