People of God, Ambassadors of Christ

ON Dec 25, I was invited by a church in Chennai to share my testimony. I began my testimony by quoting 1 Peter 2:9 and 10. The verses go thus: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”

Most people think testimonies need to be spectacular and long-winded. They’re wrong. All testimonies can be summed up in a single line. It is this: ‘I once was in darkness, but God called me into His marvelous light.’ That’s what the verse above tells us, too. Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:8 goes a step further and says, ‘For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord’ (emphasis mine). We were once not a people (we were fallen men and women), but are now the people of God and Ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). Oh, what a wonderful privilege we have in Jesus Christ! We who got this privilege have a great responsibility also. Yes, we are called to ‘walk as children of light’ and ‘abstain from fleshly lusts’ to make our ‘conduct honourable among the Gentiles’. That’s a tremendous responsibility! May our Lord God equip us and help us to live as living witnesses in the days to come.

Please pray for our workers in Chhattisgarh. Although it had always been a difficult state for Gospel workers, now it has also become a dangerous place. One of our house churches in Sirhaguda was destroyed recently by anti-Christians. My fellow workers are terrified to visit the prayer groups that we have established in 15 villages. As a result, worship and prayer meetings have been suspended in several places. My colleagues have been warned by activists of Sangh Parivar groups to stop work or face dire consequences. At most places, ghar wapasi has become a reality.

However, God is sovereign. He is still in control. I am sure He will find a way out for us.
