A nun was found dead Wednesday morning inside a water tank at the convent where she resided in Kerala, police said.

Sister Mary Ancy was found dead at the Holy Spiritual Centre, located in Poonkulam near Kovalam beach resort, they said. Sister Ancy was an inmate of a convent near Holy Spirit Primary School at Poonkulam.

The dead body of the 45-year-old was recovered by the inmates of the convent. Some news reports said the nun was 48.

The nun went missing from her room where she had gone to sleep last night after prayers.

UCA News quoting P. Chandrasekharan, an additional director general of police, said the body of Sister Mary Ancy was discovered in the tank at the Holy Spirit Convent, where she lived. He said two concrete slabs covering the tank had been removed and that a case of unnatural death had been registered for investigation.

She was a teacher in Holy Cross lower primary school in Palapoor, run by the Holy Spirit sisters.

Ancy reportedly suffered from severe allergies, and burn marks were found on her skin, according to the report.

The sister hailed from Kottayam and had been an inmate of the convent for the last 21 years.
