Nun gang raped by dacoits in West Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered a CID probe into the incident.

A nun at a convent was gang raped at Ranaghat in Nadia district when about a dozen armed men entered inside the Convent of Jesus and Mary. The dacoits allegedly gang raped the sister superior who had tried to resist them. She is critically injured and had been admitted to a hospital. She is likely to be shifted to a hospital in Kolkata.

The dacoits tied up the security guard and then went on rampage inside the convent. PTI reported that the raped nun was 75 years old.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked for a CID probe of the incident. State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said that this was a heinous attack on the minority community and wanted capital punishment against the rapists. Police said that the victim is traumatized and is unable to speak to the police.

According to authorities of the local convent school in Ranaghat sub-division, the gang broke into the convent after 12:30 am and three-four of them raped the woman after gagging her.

The gang also decamped with Rs 12 lakh in the almirah locker after committing the crime.
