NCC-Sept-2013NATIONAL Christian Council (NCC) Tamil Nadu Chapter was launched on August 26 at the CSI Synod premises in Chennai.

NCC is a nationwide body currently serving in 22 States of the country. It consists of leaders from the Christian community to deliberate on the issues of minorities with a particular focus on being a bridge between the deserving persons and the government and to avail of the welfare schemes announced by the government, a press release said.

Speaking on the occasion Sam Paul, national president of NCC said: “NCC networks the Christian community to actively participate in the nation-building process. The church and its leaders have a lot to offer to the society.” “Historically the church had contributed a lot to the welfare of the society in terms of quality education, quality healthcare and giving quality teachings for a moral life.  NCC will bring together the talent in the church from across the denominations to serve the church and the society at large.”

NCC Tamil Nadu chapter’s president Prema Sunder Raj said: “It is necessary for minorities to have a deeper engagement in the democratic process of the nation.”

Appointment of the district-level leaders has begun in the Tamil Nadu chapter, she added.

The district-level bodies, once they are set up, will ensure that no deserving person will suffer due to lack of information about any schemes announced by the government for the welfare of the minorities. The Tamil Nadu government has announced 40 schemes for the welfare of those belonging to the most backward community. These welfare programmes will be publicised all over Tamil Nadu.

Cardinal V. G. Selvaraj, Bishop S.M. Jeyakumar of ACI church, Bishop Dr. Raj Kishore from Anglican Diocese, Vathsala Selvaraj and Thomas Barnabas of Puratchi Bharatham Party were among those who participated. Press Release
