AMERICAN moviegoers prefer movies with Christian, biblical values, reveals an annual study of box office figures among the major movies produced by Hollywood.

Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide, presented these and other highlights during his Movieguide 2011 Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry at a glittering 19th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala, held at the Universal Hilton Hotel in the heart of Hollywood on Feb 18.

“The evidence is abundantly clear,” said Baehr. “Moviegoers greatly prefer family– friendly movies.”

He noted that the Annual Report, now in its 19th year, doesn’t just examine family movies and cartoons for children, but family–friendly movies with the cleanest, most inspiring and least offensive content.

“Most people want to see Good conquer evil, Truth triumph over falsehood, Justice prevail over injustice, and Beauty overcome ugliness,” he added. “They also would like to take their whole family, including their grandparents, to the movies more often.”

Baehr also said that in Hollywood, movies with very strong Christian, biblical worldviews reflecting traditional moral values released last year earned nearly four times as much money per movie as movies with those which he described as having “very strong anti– Christian, immoral, humanist/atheist, or pagan worldviews and values…”

The same thing was true at the international box office in 2010, and on home video, Baehr also said.

“Filmmakers need to make movies that overtly reflect the faith and values of Christians,” Dr. Baehr concluded. “Hollywood and the mass media cannot afford to ignore biblical values or Jesus Christ and His Gospel.”

He pointed out that more than three quarters of Americans (235 million people), and 2.3 billion people around the world, say they belong to the Christian faith.

The evening was attended by many actors, actress, studio heads and producers from throughout the entertainment industry in Hollywood. ANS
