Their beloved pastor of 13 years, Pastor Craig Foote, is home with his wife recovering. It’s been one week since Pastor Foote was brutally attacked in a Harvey neighborhood. Today, church members of Grace Baptist Church gathered to pray for him.

Pastor Foote was brutally attacked while going door-to-door with fellow church members in Harvey.  He had been robbed of just $30 and his cell phone.

When Foote’s wife and son arrived at the hospital, doctors told them he had suffered a severe skull fracture and received 14 contusions on the head.

“The only report we got was from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office was that he was on his way to University Hospital to the Trauma Unit and he was unresponsive,” said his son, Shannon Foote.

This week, prayers poured in from around the world and church members say their prayers have been answered.

“The pain is going to continue for the next couple of weeks as he continues to heal, he’s got some pretty severe headaches still. His balance has returned and he’s able to walk up and down the hall,” said Shannon Foote.

This is the first Sunday in 13 years where a congregation has had to go on without their pastor.

“It’s not normal, for him to greet you at the hall or say hello the kids when they come in,” said Joelle Bailey, “It’s different, very different.”

Meanwhile, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department has arrested 18-year-old David Shannon in connection to the crime and charged him with second degree robbery.

Church members say they have already forgiven Shannon and want to welcome him into their church because that’s what Pastor Foote would want them to do. Fox 8 News
