Let’s get back to the basics!

ATHEIST Richard Dawkins once asked American pastor Ted Haggard why he needed a multi-million dollar sound system that paralleled that of MTV.

That question needs to be put to some of the mega churches’ pastors here in India and outside. I’m sure none of them can come up with a convincing answer.

Some churches just don’t need better equipment, they need better preaching based on sound doctrine.

Some churches just don’t need to invest in huge buildings and swimming pools, they simply need to pay their associate pastors and other staffers better.

Some churches don’t need better cameras and drones, they need to first find parking space for their congregation and perhaps, budget permitting, add some water coolers and one or two free tea dispensers.

Most of the time, we compete with the world and ape its standards, when the Scriptures expressly tells us not to be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2-3).

Jesus Christ catered to the spirit of the people first. Feeding their bodies came later. Read through Matthew 14 and 15.

We are putting the cart before the horse when we care for the externals at the cost of the basics.
