pastor-saeed-abedini351A fresh campaign is under way to free an American pastor imprisoned in Iran, this time as the president of Iran is set to visit the United States.

Saeed Abedini immigrated to this country from Iran, became a citizen, and was imprisoned after returning to Iran on September 26 of last year for a family visit. He was sentenced to eight years for his previous work in the house church movement.

Jordan Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice tells OneNewsNow that Hassan Rouhani, the new president of Iran, is due to visit American shores.

He says Rouhani has “reached out to the United Kingdom and the United States, and reached out more to the international community, and there’s even reports that President Obama may even meet with the new president of Iran when he attends the United Nations.”

The Iranian president is set to come to the United States September 20 and speak to the U.N. General Assembly September 24.

Meanwhile, Abedini has written a letter to Rouhani asking for a pardon, referring to the fact that he had returned to Iran only to continue work building an orphanage. In the letter, the prisoner writes, “Considering the fact that I came to Iran to serve the orphans, please Mr. President do not let them make my children orphans and my wife without a guardian.” One News Now
