Do not be conceited

Conceit is a sin - be on your guard against it!

“Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” – Galatians 5:26.

Salvador Dalí was a prominent Spanish surrealist painter. He was a talented artist whose conceit exceeded his imagination.

“Every morning when I awake, the greatest of joys is mine: that of being Salvador Dalí” he once said.

He was criticized for choosing to live under General Franco’s fascist government in Spain. Dalí defended his position by stating that he didn’t care about others so long as he could be king.

If he wasn’t getting enough attention, he was known to walk the streets of New York City clanging a hand bell. He is also the man who once said, “The thought of not being recognized [is] unbearable.”

He summarized his ambitions, and his conceit, by saying: “At the age of 6 years, I wanted to be a chef. At the age of 7, I wanted to be Napoleon. My ambitions have continued to grow at the same rate ever since.”

Conceit is a sin – be on your guard against it!

Today in prayer, confess any sin of conceit in your life and seek to walk humbly with the Lord.

“Conceit, more rich in matter than in words, brags of his substance: they are but beggars who can count their worth.” – William Shakespeare.

God’s Word: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3.
