Hillary ClintonUS Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has said that Christians and other religious minorities are being targeted across the Middle East.

She said they needed protection as many flee their homes to escape repression.

Although she didn’t say how many people are affected, she noted that sects in several countries are experiencing more persecution.

She said attacks were on the rise against Christians and minority Muslim sects from North Africa to South Asia.

According to her, the attacks are unrelated to the current political upheaval across the Mideast. She said the issue is not getting the public attention it should.

She also candidly admitted that the US government needed to do more to protect the rights of religious minorities and hold regional governments accountable for abuses.
