Billy GrahamTHE condition of evangelist Billy Graham, who was admitted to hospital on May 11 due to difficulty in breathing and a coughing spell accompanied by a mild fever, continued to improve.

He was admitted in Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., close to Graham’s home in Montreat, for observation and pulmonary treatment.

Medical reports of the hospital suggested that Graham, 92, could be suffering from pneumonia. However, diagnostic studies showed his heart was normal.

“The doctors are encouraged by his progress, and he has responded well to antibiotics,” said A. Larry Ross, longtime spokesman for Graham.

Mission Hospital spokesperson Merrell Gregory said Friday morning that Graham remains in fair condition and that his nurses reported he was more comfortable during the night.

Although doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia “because of his age (they) decided to keep him overnight to administer antibiotics,” the spokesperson added.

Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham and CEO of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, is away in North Korea this week while Billy Graham’s daughter, Anne Graham Lotz, is in Israel.

“Because this is not a life-threatening situation, they’ve decided to continue on with their international travel,” Ross said.
