Q: All my life I’ve wanted to be a music star. I even went to Nashville last year hoping to make it big in country music. I begged God to let this happen but it didn’t. Now, I’m wondering what’s next. Why did God let me down?
A:

God may not have done what you wanted Him to do, but He didn’t let you down. In fact, although it may be hard for you to accept right now, He did what He knows is best for you by closing this door.

Why didn’t God open this door for you? I don’t know the full answer, of course, but I suspect one reason is because He knew this was not the right path for you. God loves you, and because of this, He doesn’t want to see you get involved in anything that might hurt you or lead you astray. God knows what’s best for us, and His way is always best. The Bible says, “He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones” (Proverbs 2:8).

Fame and fortune can appear very appealing and glamorous, but they also can be very destructive. How many celebrities are genuinely happy and at peace? How many, instead, end up with broken relationships or addictions or other problems? This doesn’t always happen, of course, but when we live only for ourselves or for public acclaim, we put ourselves in grave moral and spiritual danger.

My prayer is that you will turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life and your future into His hands. Instead of asking God to bless your plans, ask Him instead to show you His plans, and then give you the strength to follow them. (C) Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
