IS the Vatican collaborating with Discovery Channel on a series to be called the ‘Exorcist Files’?

In a report that first appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Discovery Channel president Clark Bunting was quoted as saying that the channel had the cooperation of the Vatican for the project, including access to its secret archives.

However, the Vatican has denied the report saying no such project is under way.

In a statement, Jesuit Fr. Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said that neither the Pontiff Council for Social Communications nor Vatican TV, “have received any request for collaboration” from the Discovery Channel.

However, he clarified that the channel may have spoken to some individual although the Vatican institution was not working with them.

Discovery Channel’s plan for the project would be to document cases of demonic possession investigated by the Catholic church.

“The Vatican is an extraordinarily hard place to get access to,” Bunting was quoted assaying. “But we explained we’re not going to try to tell people what to think.”
