Unleavened breadARAB bakers from the Galilee region and Israel’s northern Mediterranean coast will respect Jews’ religious feelings and not sell leavened bread over Passover.

This was decided following a meeting on Sunday with Deputy Minister for Development of the Negev and Galilee Ayoub Kara (Likud).

The Passover is a national holiday in Israel when Jews celebrate their day of redemption and freedom.

Both sides agreed that “if people’s livelihood depends on their selling hametz, we’ll make sure they do so far away from people who would be offended by its sale, and make sure to keep away from the Kinneret and the beaches.”

Senior Druse and Muslim religious leaders called on their flock to refrain from publicly selling hametz to Jews over Passover, especially around Jerusalem’s Old City.

The Druse are an esoteric, monotheistic religious community found primarily in Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan.

Imam of the Herzliya Sidna Ali mosque Sheikh Ra’ed Badir was quoted as saying that “nobody should harm another person’s religion.”

Sheikh Amin Kablan, the second most senior Druse religious leader in Israel, said that he would appeal to all the Druse that they don’t bake bread and pitas over the Jewish holiday.
