Diogo-Morgado-as-JesusA year after ‘The Bible’, a popular History Channel miniseries that wowed audiences through scenes that brought to life the Scriptures, TV producer Mark Burnett and actress Roma Downey all set to bring Jesus to the big screen. The film titled ‘Son of God.’

The film, according to an official report, will cover the life of Christ “from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection.” Although the film will have entertainment aspects it will also have a monumental spiritual impact on the viewers, Downey is quoted as saying in a report in TheBlaze.

“We hope audiences leave theaters feeling they know Jesus more and also that they are reminded of how deeply he loved us,” she said. “This is a big, epic sweeping film — an exciting movie and sometimes a tense movie with intense drama and real danger.”

According to Downey, the audience will be taken on “an intimate journey with Jesus”. The film that will depict the life and death of Jesus will have Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado playing the lead role.

From his journey with the apostles to the events that led to his crucifixion, the film is character-driven in its quest to bring central portions of the New Testament to life, TheBlaze said in its report.

“At the end you feel incredibly humbled and loved — reminded that we are all children of God,” Downey promised.

The film is likely to hit the theaters in the US on Feb 28.
