PRINCE William married the woman of his dreams, his college sweetheart Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey on April 29.

One of the greatest moments in modern royal history, the two were pronounced as man and wife.

An estimated two billion people watched the wedding proceedings live on television across the world.

The Bishop of London, the Rt. Rev Richard Chartres, read out a prayer that William and Kate had composed in preparation for the day:

“God our Father, we thank you for our families; for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage.

In the busyness of each day keep our eyes fixed on what is real and important in life and help us to be generous with our time and love and energy.

Strengthened by our union help us to serve and comfort those who suffer. We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen.”

According to a commentary in The Telegraph, a British newspaper, William said the words “I will” in a clear and strong voice to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s question about whether he would ‘love, comfort, honor and keep’ Kate. His bride spoke more softly when she said ‘I will’ in response to the same question.

Kate looked nervous and at several points appeared slightly choked with emotion as she repeated her vows in front of the large congregation, the newspaper reported.

The Christian Messenger has compiled 10 key Bible passages for the royal couple that talk about God’s plan and purpose for marriage besides the solemnity of the institution. Here they are:

Genesis 2:18
The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Genesis 2:23,24
Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Also found in Mark 10:7,8 and Ephesians 5:31).

Malachi 2:15
Has not [the LORD] made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

1 Corinthians 7:1-5
Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Hebrews 13:4
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

Proverbs 12:4
An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 18:22
He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.

Proverbs 31:10
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

Ephesians 5:22-23

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

Colossians 3:18-19
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.  Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
